How to Reproject LiDAR Data into the Correct Coordinate System Using Rock Desktop and Rock Cloud

Step-by-Step Guide to Reproject LiDAR Data with Rock Desktop and Cloud

Follow these steps to correctly reproject your LiDAR dataset using Rock Desktop and Rock Cloud.

Steps to Reproject LiDAR Data:

  1. Prepare the Base Station File

    • Ensure the base station file is in RINEX 3.03 format
  2. Upload to Rock Desktop

    • Upload the base station file to Rock Desktop.
    • If the base station's known point is missing, use the Advanced Options to manually enter the location in WGS84 lat/long in decimal format.

  3. Generate the Point Cloud

    • Process your data in Rock Desktop, which will produce a point cloud in UTM projection with WGS84 ellipsoidal height.
  4. Upload to Rock Cloud

    • Once the point cloud is generated, upload it directly from Rock Desktop to Rock Cloud.
  5. Reproject in Rock Cloud

    • In Rock Cloud, go to the Manage Project tab and use the Reproject tool to select your desired destination projection.

Aligning with Ground Control Points (GCPs) in Rock Cloud:

  1. Upload GCPs

    • After uploading your dataset to Rock Cloud, upload your GCPs, ensuring they are in your final projection.
  2. Align the Dataset

    • Use the GCP Alignment tool in Rock Cloud to match the dataset to the GCPs.
  3. Save the Final Projection

    • After alignment, save the dataset in Rock Cloud to lock in the final projection.
