How to use Pix4D Mapper to Create Orthomosaics with your R3 Pro

How to Import the ROCK R3 Pro LiDAR Camera Model into Pix4D Mapper

  1. Locate the Camera Model File: The first thing you'll need is the camera model file for the ROCK R3 Pro LiDAR. Email support@rockrobotic.com - we'll send it over!

  2. Open Pix4D Mapper: Double click on the Pix4D Mapper icon to launch the software.

  3. Access the Settings: Once Pix4D Mapper is open, navigate to the 'Help' menu at the top of the screen. From the dropdown menu, select 'Settings'.

  4. Import the Camera Model File: In the settings menu, you should see an option that says 'Camera Database'. Click on this, then select 'Import'.

  5. Select the File: A file browser will open. Navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the camera model file for the ROCK R3 Pro LiDAR. Select this file and click 'Open' or 'Import'. This will add the camera model to your Pix4D Mapper software.

  6. Process the Images: Now that you've added the camera model, you can begin processing your images. Import your images into Pix4D Mapper and initiate the processing.

  7. Change the Camera Model: After the images have been processed for the first time, you will need to manually change the camera model to the ROCK R3 Pro LiDAR. This option should be available in the processing options. Select 'ROCKR3PROCAM' from the list of available camera models.

  8. Reprocess the Images: After changing the camera model, you will need to process your images again. Once this is done, Pix4D Mapper will automatically recognize your images as being associated with the ROCK R3 Pro LiDAR in future.

  9. Generate the Orthomosaic: After the second processing, you can then proceed to generate the orthomosaic.

It is important to keep in mind that the steps may differ slightly depending on the version of Pix4D Mapper being used. However, the general process remains the same, with only slight variations in menu options and names.
