Insta360 Settings for V2 SLAM (and Mobile) Setup

ROCK wants to ensure that everyone using the V2 SLAM data collection setup has the correct Insta360 camera settings. Proper settings are crucial for accurate extrinsic calibration as well as colorizing your SLAM point cloud. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get it right.

Setting Up Your Insta360 Camera

  1. Switch to Video Mode

    • Ensure your Insta360 camera is in video mode.
  2. Adjust Resolution and Frame Rate

    • Tap on the settings icon.
    • Set the resolution to 6K.
    • Set the frame rate to 30.
  3. Verify Settings

    • Confirm that your camera display shows 6K with 2 over 1 above it and 30 below it.

If the Insta360 camera records 360 degree video without the settings above, only one (1) .insv file will be generated.  ROCK Desktop requires two (2) .insv files to colorize your SLAM or mobile point cloud.

Additional Tips

  • Regular Checks: Regularly check your camera settings before each use to ensure they haven't changed.
  • Firmware Updates: Keep your Insta360 camera firmware up to date for optimal performance.
