Using R3Pro on DJI M300/M350

How to fly the R3 Pro on the DJI M300/M350

 

NOTE: Please ensure you are on the latest firmware for the R3PRO. The R3PRO will default to aerial (wifi) mode. If you are NOT a SLAM user then you are ready to fly and can disregard this article. 

Setting up R3Pro for Use on DJI M300/M350 for SLAM Collection

  1. Email support@rockrobotic.com to request the ROCK Pilot app. 
  2. Update your R3PRO firmware (if not on latest release).
  3. Install the ROCK Pilot app on to your android device.

AT THIS TIME ROCK PILOT IS NOT READY FOR FLIGHT. DO NOT USE IT FOR FLIGHT PURPOSES.

HOW TO USE THE R3 PRO ON THE SLAM KIT - SLAM

NOTE:

- M300 SLAM & AERIAL users will only need to complete the switch to SLAM mode once and the unit will automatically switch between SLAM & aerial (same M300) and vice versus.

-M350 SLAM & AERIAL users will need to switch modes every time they go from SLAM to aerial and vice versus.

 

If you are trying to collect SLAM data, but the R3Pro is not actually in SLAM mode, the light on the R3 Pro will not turn green, but instead flash red. If you see a flashing red light- you need to follow these steps:

  1. Connect your R3Pro to the SLAM hardware
  2. Press the R3Pro  power button once to power up your LiDAR and the R3Pro will begin broadcasting the wifi network.
  3. Join the LiDAR Wifi on your Android Device – R3PRO Password is 12345678
  4. If prompted, ignore  the no internet connection warning - keep using the network
  5. Open the ROCK Pilot App on your Android Device
  6. Choose Slam Mode
  7. You will see the below screen, click the settings icon
  8. Confirm that the LiDAR is in the correct mode by clicking the Mode option.

  9. Your settings should be set to SLAM mode.  Select ‘SLAM Mode’ and click Confirm.
  10. Upon clicking Confirm, you will see another popup prompting you to restart the LiDAR.  Please turn off the LiDAR by pressing the power button on the R3Pro and holding for 5 seconds until the unit powers down or using the “Turn off the device” in the app.

  11. Once LiDAR is completely off, you can now close the Pilot App.
  12. Turn the R3 Pro back on and then you can use the Pilot app to check that the mode it set to SLAM by going back to the Mode menu in the settings. 
  13. Now you can use the 1 button method to SLAM! 

HOW TO SWITCH THE R3PRO TO AERIAL MODE ON THE M350


  1. Install the R3Pro onto the DJI M350
  2. Power on the DJI M350 outside with a clear view of the sky 
  3. Press the R3Pro  power button once to power up your LiDAR and the R3Pro will begin broadcasting the wifi network.
  4. Join the LiDAR Wifi on your Android Device – R3PRO Password is 12345678
  5. If prompted, ignore the no internet connection warning - keep using the network.
  6. Open the ROCK Pilot App on your Android Device.
  7. Choose Airborne mode (this is just choosing the app layout, not the Mode)
  8. You will see the below screen, click the settings icon
  9. Confirm that the LiDAR is in the correct mode.  Please click the Mode option.

  10. Your settings should be set to "WiFi Mode" for M350 aerial use.  Select ‘WiFi’ and click Confirm.
    1. If it is in Wi-Fi mode already, you're ready for aerial collection on the M350. You can double check by tapping away from this box, going back to the regular ROCK Pilot app screen and making sure you have satellite connections in the top left. Ensure you are outside when doing this.
  11. Upon clicking Confirm, you will see another popup prompting you to restart the LiDAR.  Please turn off the LiDAR by pressing the power button on the R3Pro and holding for 5 seconds until the unit powers down or using the “Turn off the device” in the app.

  12. Once LiDAR is completely off, you can now close the ROCK Pilot App.
  13. Turn the R3 Pro back on and then you can use the ROCK Pilot app to check that the mode it set to Wi-Fi by going back to the Mode menu in the setting per Step 10a.
  14. Now you can use the 1 button method to fly!
