How to format:
- Insert into a Windows PC.
- Right click the drive and choose "Format".
- Select "exFAT" and Allocation unit size of "128 kilobytes".
- Format and create a folder called "DATA" on the drive. This is case sensitive.
- You're good to go!
How to format (Mac):
- Connect the drive to your Mac.
- Open the "Disk Utility" application. You can find this by going to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, or by searching for it using Spotlight (press Command + Space and start typing "Disk Utility").
- In the Disk Utility window, select the drive you want to format from the list on the left. Make sure to select the drive itself, not any partitions it may contain.
- Click the "Erase" button at the top of the Disk Utility window.
- In the dialog that appears, do the following:
- Give the drive a name if desired.
- For the format, choose "ExFAT".
- There is no option to specify an allocation unit size on Mac. The system will automatically choose an appropriate size.
- Click "Erase" to start the formatting process.
- Once the formatting is complete, the drive will remount and appear on your desktop and in the Finder.
- Open the drive in Finder, and create a new folder on it. To do this:
- Right-click (or Control+click) in the empty space of the drive's window.
- Choose "New Folder".
- Rename the new folder to "DATA" (all caps, case sensitive).
- You're now ready to use the drive!
