Using a new flash drive and formatting it with the R3 Pro

How to format:

  1. Insert into a Windows PC.
  2. Right click the drive and choose "Format".
  3. Select "exFAT" and Allocation unit size of "128 kilobytes".
  4. Format and create a folder called "DATA" on the drive. This is case sensitive. 
  5. You're good to go! 

 

How to format (Mac):

  1. Connect the drive to your Mac.
  2. Open the "Disk Utility" application. You can find this by going to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, or by searching for it using Spotlight (press Command + Space and start typing "Disk Utility").
  3. In the Disk Utility window, select the drive you want to format from the list on the left. Make sure to select the drive itself, not any partitions it may contain.
  4. Click the "Erase" button at the top of the Disk Utility window.
  5. In the dialog that appears, do the following:
    • Give the drive a name if desired.
    • For the format, choose "ExFAT".
    • There is no option to specify an allocation unit size on Mac. The system will automatically choose an appropriate size.
    • Click "Erase" to start the formatting process.
  6. Once the formatting is complete, the drive will remount and appear on your desktop and in the Finder.
  7. Open the drive in Finder, and create a new folder on it. To do this:
    • Right-click (or Control+click) in the empty space of the drive's window.
    • Choose "New Folder".
    • Rename the new folder to "DATA" (all caps, case sensitive).
  8. You're now ready to use the drive!
