Installing and Removing Your ROCK Ultra LiDAR System – Quick Start Guide

Installing and removing the ROCK Ultra LiDAR unit is a straightforward process—but it’s important to follow the proper steps to ensure data accuracy and avoid damage to sensitive hardware.

The lever arm and GNSS rod & antenna are unique to the ROCK Ultra.  A lever arm or GNSS rod & antenna from other ROCK LiDAR units cannot be used with the ROCK Ultra unit.

Follow these steps in order to set up your ROCK Ultra for flight:

  1. Install Lever Arm on Skyport

    • Remove the protective cap from the lever arm and store it safely.

    • Align the white and red dots, then turn counterclockwise until the lever arm clicks into place (the red dots will be aligned).

  2. Attach GNSS Rod and Antenna

    • Insert the GNSS rod vertically into the lever arm connection point.

    • Rotate the threads until hand-tightened and secure.

  3. Mount the ROCK Ultra Unit

    • Carefully install the ROCK Ultra onto the lever arm. The camera will be facing forward (direction of flight).

    • Do not touch the laser cover on the bottom of the unit during handling.

  4. Insert the USB Drive

  5. Power On the Unit

    • Hold the large side button for several seconds until a red light appears.

    • The LED will turn green after the self-check and GNSS initialization.

🧰 Removal Steps

Reverse the installation steps when you're done collecting data:

  • Power off the unit.

  • Detach the ROCK Ultra from the lever arm, and put back in the case.

  • Unscrew and remove the GNSS rod vertically.

  • Press the release button on the lever arm, rotate clockwise to align the red and white dots, and remove the lever arm.

  • Reapply the protective cap and store all components securely.

By following this setup, you'll ensure accurate data capture and safe handling of your ROCK Ultra system.
