# ROCK Ultra GNSS and Self Test

## When you start your ROCK Ultra LiDAR, it will begin a GNSS and Self Test. If either of these tests fail, here are some troubleshooting steps.

After powering on your ROCK Ultra LIDAR unit, you will see a  red light to indicate that your unit is performing the GNSS and Self test.  The tests should take about 1 minute before the light changes to solid green to indicate the GNSS and Self Test have passed.  If your light remains red or flashes red, please follow the troubleshooting steps below.

- Ensure that your ROCK Ultra LiDAR unit and drone are away from sources of interference like utility lines, tall buildings, storage containers, etc.  These sources of interference can cause your ROCK Ultra LiDAR unit to not acquire the necessary fix on GNSS satellites.
- Remove your ROCK Ultra, lever arm, and GNSS antenna.  Check the connection points for any signs of wear, damage, or a build up of dust or dirt.  If there is no visible damage or wear please reattach your lever arm, GNSS antenna, and ROCK Ultra then turn the unit on again to initiate the GNSS Test.  If there is visible damage or wear, please take pictures of the connection points, and email them ROCK (support@rockrobotic.com**)** for further investigation. Compressed air can be used to remove any dust from the connections points.
- Verify that the GNSS antenna is completely attached the antenna rod.
- Check your USB drive on the ROCK Ultra LiDAR.  If the USB drive has less than 10% available storage, the R3 Pro V2 or R3 Pro  will not pass the GNSS test.  After downloading all the data off your USB drive, [and formatting](https://learn.rockrobotic.com/what-flash-drive-works-with-the-r3-pro?hsLang=en), please see if the ROCK Ultra will pass the GNSS test again.
- Verify that your USB drive has a folder named "DATA" created.  This folder must have all capitol letters!
- Make sure that your drone, remote, and skyport have the most up to date firmware.  If flying with a DJI M300/350 you will need to use DJI Assistant to check and update the skyport firmware.
- Make sure the LiDAR unit has the most update to date format, and the most recent firmware update was completed following these instructions: [How to Update the Firmware on your ROCK LiDAR unit.](https://learn.rockrobotic.com/how-to-update-your-r3pro?hsLang=en)

  ### How to format:

    1. Insert into a Windows PC.
    2. Right click the drive and choose **"Format"**.
    3. Select **"exFAT"** , Allocation unit size of **"128 kilobytes"**, and de-select **"Quick Format"**.
    4. Format and create a folder called **"DATA"** on the drive. This is case sensitive.
    5. You're good to go!

If you are flying with a DJI M300/350 drone, please check that the USB-C cable on your damping kit/gimbal connector is connected to the USB-C connection port on the left side (when facing the same direction as the drone flying forward).  The photo below (even though it is of an R3 Pro V2 unit) shows what side to have the USB-C cable connected on.

If your ROCK Ultra LiDAR continues to have issues with passing the GNSS test at start up, [please follow these steps](https://learn.rockrobotic.com/how-to-get-logs-from-your-r3-pro-lidar-unit?hsLang=en)so that a hardware log is created the next time you power the LiDAR unit on.  Power the LiDAR unit on one more time to generate the hardware log.  You can then email the hardware log to ROCK (support@rockrobotic.com) with a description of the issue and all the troubleshooting steps that have been completed for further investigation.
